Aflao (originally called Aƒlawu) is bounded by East by the Republic of Togo and by the West by Denu, by the south by the Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of Guinea and by the north by neighbouring towns, such as Dzodze…? Aflao lies within the Ketu District in the Volta Region. The area is mainly Savannah grassland. Aflao has a beautiful coastland stretching along the southern part of the city, which could be developed for tourist attraction. The city is primarily populated by the BE-ANLO, a sub group of the Ewe people. But migrants from neighboring Ghanaian and West African groups, such as the Ga, Akan, Kabye, Kotokoli, Igbo, and the Yoruba came to settle among the Ewe at Aflao.

Aflao have the settlement of citizens from other West African Countries. Lome is part of Aflao-Be stretching from Kodjoviakope, Nyekonakpoe, Aflao-Totsi and Aflao-Totigan.

Lome the capital city of Togo is part of Aflao-Be which lies in the District of Prefecture du Golfe in Région Maritime (Maritime Region). The people of Aflao-Be in Ghana and Togo are close families that are now divided by the border demarcation. The Ewe in the Volta Region of Ghana and the Republic of Togoland are one people who were once administered by the German. The people of the Volta Region voted in a plebiscite during the Ghana’s independence in 1957 to join Ghana.

The Aflao boarder is one of the busiest spots in West Africa where traders, hawkers and loiterers shuffle across the borders. Many Togolese live in Ghana by night and work in the markets of Lome, the capital of Togo during the day.

Traveling from Cape Town in South Africa through Cairo in North Africa to West Africa, through the southern part of Nigeria to Ghana by road, one would cross the famous Aflao border.
